Vancouver, B.C.
- Rick Passek feels most at home fishing - whether he’s on the
shore of a river, a lake or on the ocean. His first teacher was his
father Karl, a self-taught fisherman who “was the best all-round
fisherman I ever had the pleasure of fishing with,” says Passek..
For the past 25
years, Passek has been learning the intricacies of becoming a top-notch
fisherman and fishing expert. Over the last 15 years, Passek has been
diligently learning the ins and outs of the fresh water lakes and
rivers in southern British Columbia, in order to share them with fellow
fishermen.
Of his passion for
the sport, Rick says, “I am a die-hard fisherman who truly loves
Fly Fishing.” This has led him to take numerous classes in both
Fly casting and Entomology, or the scientific study of insects (key in
helping fishermen understand the food sources of the fish they’d
like to catch and sometimes release).
Putting his vast knowledge and skills to good use, Passek started a company called Rp3 ( www.rp3fishingadventures.com)
to teach others what he knows and to lead fishermen into the
breath-taking beauty of British Columbia’s water ways on fishing
adventures. His classes cover everything from theory, knots, lake and
river tactics to hands-on casting. His motto: “Tight lines and
Fun times.”
As a practical tool
for his students, or for any fly fishing neophyte, Passek recently
penned the straight-shooting and practical The Freshman Fly Fisher.
The book covers all of the fly fishing basics/tactics and dispels any
lingering myths about the sport; a sport Passek says “is really
for everyone.” Written in an accessible, fun manner, Passek hopes
to get people outdoors, enjoying the sport and recharging their
batteries. If they can do that as a family, then all the better in his
estimation. It’s one way Passek found he could connect with his
father Karl when he was a young boy living in the Calgary area and
it’s something he’s never forgotten.

Rp3
Fishing Adventures started because of an accident. Rick,
having injured his knee while running his own business in industrial
repairs, began to play with the idea of blogging and writing about his
own fishing adventures and knowledge. Rick quickly discovered
that while there was a vast amount of information regarding fly
fishing and fishing in general there wasn't much information
avialable geared towards the new fly fisher. As he was writing
his blog posts his wife suggested that he should compile that
information into a book and the Freshman Fly Fisher, was born.
The
natural progression was to offer classes to those who were interested
in fly fishing but felt overwhelmed by the information, Rick has been
able to take his knowledge and years of experience and provide a
learning experience for the beginner and novice fly fisher to quickly
be intergrated into the world of fly fishing, allowing them to learn to enjoy
this great outdoor sport.
Rick
and Rp3 Fishing Adventures has added a new and exciting element to
their offerings as well! The Family Camping Adventure - geared
towards families who have always wanted to explore the outdoors but
haven't had the chance to do so. With so many families living
in urban environments the chance to explore a rural area with your family is a thrilling experience. Rp3 Fishing
Adventures looks forward to offering services to new
fly fishers, families and tourists looking for a unique guiding
experience. Contact us today to learn more!
