GOOD FISHING STORIES FROM 2006!!!
I went to the queen charolettes for the first time in my life this year. It was something that i have wanted to do for many years and this was my chance. I went to Engelfeild bay lodge with my Father, his wife and a good family freind. The flight up was uneventful, until we got to sandspit, then the chooper ride to the loge was amazing. The views from the chopper were spectacular, and i loved every second of it. Once we landed on the lodges dock we proceded to our respective rooms and the went on to lunch. As soon as lunch was finnished we were on our way fishing. I was paired up with my Freind in this 19′ boat and since he had been here more than once i sugested that he take the wheel and thake us to a good spot. We decided that we would go for bottom fish on this first outing(ling, halli, and snapper). As we got out of the bay we started to run into some rough water(or at least i thought it was), but once we got out to our fishing spot about 2km of shore i found out what rough water was. We were fishing in 3-4 meter swells, i had prepared for this by taking graval, and by wearing a sea sick patch, well i found out in about 20 min of fishing that i did not like this kind of fishing. We caught 2 nice snapper around 15-18 pounds but all i could think of was not getting sick. Well that did’nt work, i got sicker than a dog and we decided that we would head back to the lodge. Back at the lodge i had a shower and took a nap to get over this crappy feeling. Once i awoke from my nap i felt better and decided that since all the boats were out that i would fish off the dock. I had heard that there had been some big hallis caught from here. I started fishing and all i could catch was rat fish and some BIG mud sharks, i kept this up for about an hour and then i had this massive weight on the end of my rod. There was no fight and i said to one of the dock hands,if this is the way a halli fights i don’t want any more, after about ten min i brought it up,it was no halli it was a 40-50 pound octapus. This has to be one of the weirdest things i have ever caught. All the dock hands ran over to see because they say that it is by far the best bait out there for halli, we tried in vain to get it tothe dock, every time we tried it would shoot a jet of water and ink at us. after many atempts to get it on the dock it got off the hook and went back to the bottom. All in all i have a great 1st day at the lodge, and a story that i will tell for a while.
Wishing everone tight lines and tons of fish.
