What Flies are you tying over the winter?

As the title asks, What will you be tying? There are so many different patterns to be tying this winter that I had to make myself a schedule. I know that many Fly Fisherman are also fly tyers and many of them also tie up many flies during the winter months to keep from going mad from lack of fishing.

There are a few different patterns that I will be tying this winter, the following are my Must ties for the winter.

-Micro leeches

I will tie these in Black/Red, some in Brown, some in Red, some in Purple, and some in Green. I will tie 6 of each with silver beads, 6 with gold beads, and 6 with Red (Egg sucking) beads

-Chironomids

I will tie these in , Browns, Blacks, Greens, silver (Chromie) with many different types of ribs and beads.

-Spratley’s, Half Backs, 52 Buicks

These I will tie in Reds, Greens, Blacks, and Orange (Yes orange)

-Dragons

(Tied By Phil Rowley)

The above fly was tied for me at the Fraser Valley Boat and Sportsmans show by Phil Rowley. I have used it on a Type VI sinking line with GREAT success. These I will tie just as shown above

-Damsels

The Damsels I tie are in light and dark greens, Browns, light tan, and in a cinnamon color.

These are just a few of the patterns that I will be tying over the winter. What about you? Please leave a comment, I would love to hear about what you are tying and even see some pics.

Thanks, and have fun Tying

First off, congratulations on the site Rick. Looks very professional and should serve you quite well. As for tying over the winter, oh my god I’m already behind. I’ll be tying 250 dozen llama microleeches, 100 dozen Pumpkinheads and 6-700 dozen chironomids. Ya, ya I know, actually writing the numbers down is quite overwhelming. Best of luck. John
