Gear Review (Dyna King Fly Tying Vise)
Well, First post of the new year. I just returned from vacation with my wife. We went to New York City for New Years eve. I have been to New York before and LOVED it. This time was NUTS. There were SOOOO many people in the city at this time of year, I will not go back at or around Xmas or New Years.
I was expecting a gong show New Years eve, but the hole week after New Years was crazy with tourists.
On to the review.
While I was in new York, i stopped by a GREAT little fly shop called The Urban Angler.
I Had been looking for a new vise for some time and was trying to choose between a Dyna King and a Renzetti
After much research and testing both tying vises, I choose to buy the Dyna King. I picked up the Dyna King Barracuda The Barracuda is a very well built and has a very smooth rotary action. The only major difference between the Dyna King and the Renzetti is Price. The quality between the two are almost Identical They are both made from Stainless Steel, Both have nice Rotary action, and both come with substantial weighing bases.
I have tied many flies since buying the vise, and can only find one small thing that I would change. The handle that is used to turn the vise for rotary tying is a little clumsy and I would have preferred a more substantial arm or even a large knob instead of a handle. The Handle is almost identical in all of the like priced vises on the market, so I figure that this is just the way they are made. I would have prefered on more like the Nor Vise But I will get use to this small issue.
I have used MANY different vises over the years, and so far I am Very impressed with this vise. I highly recommend that if you are in the market for a new tying vise to check out these GREAT vises at your local fly fishing store.
